Project Goal
This is a special project that collaborates with Bamboo U in Bali, Indonesia. By planting, harvesting, and preserving bamboo fiber, the designer is given the knowledge of this sustainable material, then she starts to utilize bamboo to build unique lighting devices, furniture, installations, and even architecture.
The bamboo light is dedicated to the rise of women's rights movements around the world. The lampshade mimics the white soft hat, or wings, a symbol of patriarchal oppression worn in the TV series. When the light passes through the lampshade, made from a thin bamboo veneer, bamboo fibers appear creating depth and radiating tranquility- two qualities synonymous with Asian culture and design.
